'Pokémon Go' Tips: Why Trainers Need To Use The Buddy Pokémon Or Naming Methods To Get The Gen 2 Eeveelutions

Currently two known ways to turn Eevees into either Espeons or Umbreons inside 'Pokémon Go'

The Eevee has turned into one of the more easily recognizable Pokémon, and inside "Pokémon Go," many players covet this creature mainly because of the many evolutionary paths that are available for it to take.

Still, trainers need to know what they are doing if the Eevee in their possession is going to turn out exactly how they want it to.

Specifically, if players are looking for Espeons and Umbreons, then they really need to be mindful of many things before they evolve their Eevees.

That's because turning an Eevee into either an Espeon or an Umbreon is not quite as simple as it seems.

First off, the two Gen 2 Eeveelutions apparently don't appear accidentally, according to a recent article from SlashGear.

This means that trainers may not be able to luck themselves into obtaining these Pokémon, and because of that, they will need to employ the known special methods that can produce Espeons and Umbreons.

The first of these special methods is the so-called naming trick. In order to use this trick, "Pokémon Go" players will need to assign a specific name to their Eevees before they evolve in order to secure a particular Eeveelution.

Players looking for an Espeon will need to name their Eevee as Sakura, while those who want an Umbreon will want to name their Eevee as Tamao.

Alternatively, players can also use the Buddy Pokémon trick in order to get either Espeon or Umbreon. The Buddy Pokémon trick simply requires players to designate the Eevee as their Buddy Pokémon and then proceed to walk more than 10 kilometers with it.

With all that walking done, players can now evolve the Eevee during the day if they want an Espeon or at night if what they are seeking is an Umbreon.

One last thing, Redditor "juw177" recently shared in a post on the r/TheSilphRoad Subreddit that location services apparently need to be turned on for this Buddy Pokémon trick to work, so trainers will not want to forget that the next time they are trying to acquire one of these Gen 2 Eeveelutions.

More "Pokémon Go" tips should be made available in the near future.
