'Pokémon Gold and Silver' to Be Re-Released in Shiny Versions
The classic "Pokémon" installments, namely "Pokémon Gold and Silver" are getting a special re-release in the form of shiny boxed versions.
The unique packaging of the games will be available on Sept. 22, the same day that the titles will be released on the Nintendo 3DS eShop. The box arts are the same as the original iterations first released in 2000 save for the shiny finish.
At the moment, however, the shiny "Pokémon Gold and Silver" games are only confirmed for Europe and Japan. There is no announcement for the U.S. yet and there is no telling if there will be any.
The shiny packaged versions will include digital download codes although the Japanese version will come with additional merchandise such as Game Boy Color cartridge-shaped magnets, stickers and a poster featuring the Pokémon belonging to the generation of the titles.
There is no word yet with regard to the pricing of the shiny "Pokémon Gold and Silver" editions, but this piece of information should be announced in the weeks to come.
"Pokémon Gold and Silver" were released as the follow-ups to "Pokémon Red, Yellow and Blue." Therefore, the story is set two years after the events of these games and takes players in the Johto region.
"Pokémon Gold and Silver" paved the way for the current games to make them what they are. For one, the titles were the first to introduce the day and night system.
The pair of titles also allowed players to breed Pokémon for the first time and meet a couple of new types of the pocket monsters — Dark and Steel.
The shiny "Pokémon Gold and Silver" versions will come with Pokémon Bank support so that players can have the Pokémon they catch in the games over to "Pokémon Sun and Moon" and the upcoming titles, "Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon."
