'Pokken Tournament's' Western Release Date Announced: New Modes, Support Pokemons Detailed
Good news for non-Japanese fans of "Pokemon Tournament." The game has received its Western release date, as well as new details.
"Pokken Tournament" launch comes with a special amiibo card
The upcoming Pokemon fighting game is coming to the Wii U sooner than expected, with Nintendo announcing "Pokken Tournament's" release date on March 18 for North America and Europe. This means players in these regions will be able to buy the game on the same date as players in Japan. The game has a suggested retail price of $59.99.
As a bonus, Nintendo is including a special Mewtwo amiibo card in the game's first production run version. The amiibo card can be used to unlock Shadow Mewtwo so that it's instantly included in the game's roster of fighters at the get-go.
Mewtwo is one of 16 Pokemons that are confirmed to be playable in the game. The other fighters included in the roster are Pikachu, Pikachu Libre, Machamp, Lucario, Gengar, Gardevoir, Charizard, Blaziken, Weavile, Sceptile, Suicune, and the recently revealed Garchomp, Braixen, Mewtwo, and Chandelure.
New modes and Support Pokemons
In addition to the new battle Pokemons and release date, a report from Pokemon-centric site Serebii has also revealed new details about the game. According to the report, "Pokken Tournament" will have three modes and two sets of new Support Pokemon.
"Pokken Tournament" will have a standard Single Battle Mode, which will have three different difficulty levels. There's also a Local Battle Mode where one player uses the standard controller, while the other player uses the GamePad. The third mode, Online Mode, has two parts. The online Friendly Matches allow players to fight with friends and others in a friendly battle. Meanwhile, the online Ranked Matches are for the more competitive players who want to win matches and rank high in online leaderboards.
To win in matches, players need to choose their battle Pokemons wisely, as well as pick a good team of Support Pokemons. Unlike battle Pokemons that are the player's main fighters, Support Pokemons can only be called into the battlefield for assistance in a short amount of time.
Support Pokemons come in sets of two. The current sets of support Pokemons include:
- Emolga and Fennekin
- Snivy and Lapras
- Frogadier and Eevee
- Mismagius and Ninetales
- Jirachi and Whimsicott
- Farfetch'd and Electrode
- Pachirisu and Magikarp (new)
- Sylveon and Croagunk (new)
The last two sets of Support Pokemons have recently been added to the list, according to Serebii. Aside from their role in the matches, not much information has been revealed about these Support Pokemons.
