The team recently beat the Chicago Fire and Real Salt Lake and will try to extend its winning streak with a big win over Houston.
Fanendo Adi is the team's top goal-scorer as the Nigerian already has 10 goals in 24 league appearances. He remains the focal point in Portland's offence and the 24-year-old has scored in two of his last three games.
Veteran defender Nat Borchers has also been impressive so far this season, already with three goals to his name despite playing in the back third of the pitch.
On the other hand, Houston had its three-match unbeaten run broken when it lost to the New England Revolution in its last league game.
Prior to that, the team beat the Galaxy and San Jose Earthquakes and settled for a 1-1 draw against Sporting Kansas City.
The team's goals have been a little more balanced as Will Bruin and Giles Barnes have shared the load in their offence.
Bruin has nine goals so far while Barnes has six in the league.
The two teams have met twice already this season and have split their meetings so far. Their first match resulted in a 3-1 win for the Dynamo led by a brace by Bruin.
However, in their most recent match, Portland won at home with Maximiliano Urruti and Gaston Fernandez providing the goals in the 2-0 game.
