Portland Trail Blazers Injury Updates, News: Meyers Leonard Dislocates Shoulder
Portland Trail Blazers forward Meyers Leonard is the latest to be hit by the injury bug after suffering from a dislocated left shoulder in Wednesday's loss against the San Antonio Spurs. The big man was seen fighting for position in a rebounding play against the Spurs' David West and Kawhi Leonard when the incident happened.
Jason Quick reporting for CSNNW revealed that Leonard got what appeared to be a complete dislocation, which usually means that the player will be missing significant time, probably at least a month or so. This same injury also has a high risk of getting re-injured when the player forces his way back into action without full recovery and rehabilitation.
The Trail Blazers lost the game 113-101, but it would have been something that's more acceptable than the fact that the team is down one big man again. It is also interesting that the team's biggest frontline star last year, LaMarcus Aldridge, is now playing in San Antonio. The outside shooting big man will definitely be missed in Portland's thin frontline rotation.
After visibly grimacing in pain, Leonard was quickly brought to the locker room while clutching his left arm on the court in the middle part of the third quarter. He eventually failed to return to the game, causing speculations that the injury was indeed a serious one. It still unclear as to who grabbed or caused the injury but replays showed he was battling for a rebounding position against both West and Leonard while teammate Damian Lillard was taking his second free throw.
Already in his fourth season in the league, the big man comes in with averages of 8.6 points and 4.4 rebounds a game so far in the young season.
As of this posting, there is no official word from the Portland organization as to when Leonard is expected to return.
