Aldridge was one of the most coveted players during the off-season and he decided to take his talents to Texas to play alongside Tim Duncan and the rest of the Spurs to make them a definitive contender for this year's title.
However, in his decision to chase the title, he left the Trail Blazers where he started his career and became one of the best power forwards in the team's history.
He will still be considered one of the best players in the franchise's story, but this day, he is the enemy as he wears the opponents' colors.
At the moment, the decision to move seems correct as the Spurs are at 5-2 so far, good enough to top the Southwest Division.
They are also on a two-game winning streak and are looking to get their third at the expense of the Trail Blazers.
On the other hand, the Blazers started their season hot and exceeding initial expectations, but they have dropped their last two games to get a 4-4 record to sit second to last in the Northwest Division.
Despite that fact, the Blazers still look like a formidable team as Damian Lillard has carried the scoring load so far and has proven to be one of the best point guards in the league.
In Aldridge's absence, new stars have emerged as well as CJ McCollum and Meyers Leonard have given valuable points for Portland as they are new options outside of Lillard.
This will be an emotional battle when the two teams meet, but the quality of basketball remains at the highest level.
