'Power Rangers' Cast News: Short List of Actors Revealed
More details about the upcoming movie reboot of "Power Rangers" have revealed the cast.
According to Screen Rant, the producers of the film "Power Rangers" have been searching for unknown actors to play the roles of the well-loved Rangers. The film is expected to feature the new Rangers as a diverse group of high school students.
With that, there have been speculations on a short list of the Rangers, as reported by Variety. It was said that the Pink Ranger, also known as Kimberly, could be played either by Naomi Scott from "The Martian" or Stephanie Scott. For the Black Ranger, also known as Zack, actors Daniel Zovatto from "It Follows," Ross Bulter from "Chasing Life," and Brian Marc from "Major Crimes" were short-listed to take on the role.
Meanwhile, K.J. Apa from "Shortland Street," Austin Butler from "The Shannara Chronicles," and Mitchell Hope from "The Descendants" were options for the role of the Red Ranger, also known as Jason.
However, there has yet to be news on who will portray the other rangers such as the Yellow Ranger, also known as Trini; the Blue Ranger, also known as Billy; and the Green Ranger, also known as Tommy.
It was stated that the choices for the cast were deliberately chosen by Lionsgate to truly portray the brand of the franchise. With that, the director of the film, Dean Israelite, explained that the franchise will be seen in a new light. The upcoming film is expected to be mature, yet playful.
Working with Dean Israelite, the producers of the show consist of Haim Saban, Brian Casentini, and Allison Shearmur. Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz will be the scriptwriters of the film.
"Power Rangers" is expected to release on Jan. 13, 2017.
