'Power Rangers: Legacy Wars' Release Date, Gameplay: Mobile Game To Launch As Reboot Movie Tie-in
Game developer nWay has just revealed they are making the "Power Rangers: Legacy Wars," a mobile game to be released as a tie-in to the upcoming "Power Rangers" movie reboot.
According to the "Power Rangers: Legacy Wars'" official teaser video's description on YouTube, it is going to be a real-time multiplayer fighting game and will be released on iOS and Android mobile devices.
While the trailer is quite short and reveals very limited details, its description teased that the game will feature familiar villains and heroes from the franchise. Some of the characters who can already be seen from the trailer are the Rangers from the reboot movie as well as the Rangers from Mighty Morphin and Dino Charge, which are just two of the TV versions of the franchise.
Game developer nWay is best known for their hack-and-slash mobile game "ChronoBlade," which according to some reports sets a reason to expect that the upcoming mobile game will turn out to be a good release.
"Legacy Wars" is not the only "Power Rangers" game that's slated for release this early 2017. Last Jan. 10, Bandai Namco launched "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Mega Battle" on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
"Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Mega Battle" is a 2D brawler game where players act as one of the Rangers. The gameplay exudes the classic scrolling style and can accommodate up to four local players. It was first previewed during New York Comic Con last October 2016. Alongside the classic version of the Rangers, the game also features the infamous villain Rita Repulsa.
However, a recent gameplay review by Kotaku showed signs of disappointment. According to the review, one considered weakness of the game lies in the very few "non-Ranger interaction."
As per the review, the game lacks the element to bring players back to their childhood memories. The review argued that while the version of Rangers and gameplay were presented to exude the classic version of the franchise, the nostalgia can only be felt during character selection.
On the other hand, nWay has yet to announce the release schedule of "Power Rangers: Legacy Wars" but it is expected to arrive the same month as the upcoming movie reboot that will premiere on March 24.
