'Power Rangers: Legacy Wars' Release Date: Worldwide Launch Set for March 23, A Day Before Movie Release
During the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco last Tuesday, Feb. 28, nWay mobile game "Power Rangers: Legacy Wars" was confirmed to launch on March 23 for both iOS and Android devices.
The game's release comes a day before the new "Power Rangers" movie hits U.S. theaters on March 24, which is directed by Dean Israelite ("Project Almanac") and distributed under Lionsgate Films.
The release date of the "Power Rangers: Legacy Wars" mobile game was announced during the keynote presentation of Unity Technologies, which also brought together "Power Rangers" movie and TV stars Ludi Lin (Black Ranger) from the upcoming movie and Jason David Frank (Green Ranger) from the television series, "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers."
Both actors participated in the game's on-stage demo and showed off their game-playing skills using the "Power Rangers" character they portrayed in the film or show.
The premise of the game centers on the evil space witch Rita Repulsa, who managed to clone a whole army of Power Rangers in order to destroy the group's legacy.
Players of the game are allowed to build their own team in able to defeat Rita and her cohorts, using its real-time multiplayer function.
Aside from that, the game's fight mode is programmed differently through a unique timing system that is not like traditional fighting games wherein players with fast push-button skills can easily win.
In this game, players have to rely on a point system which they earn simultaneously during the fight. Certain types of attacks would cost certain points - so players are more or less forced to make use of different types of moves depending on the scores they earn.
For residents of Canada and Brazil, "Power Rangers: Legacy Wars" can already be played starting March 2. The rest of the world, however, have to wait until the 23rd.
Meanwhile, aside from Lin, the upcoming "Power Rangers" movie also stars Dacre Montgomery ("Stranger Things") as Red Ranger, Naomi Scott ("The Martian") as Pink Ranger, RJ Cyler (""Me and Earl and the Dying Girl") as Blue Ranger, Mexican-American singer Becky G ("Empire") as Yellow Ranger, and Elizabeth Banks ("The Hunger Games") as Rita Repulsa.
