'Preacher' Season 3 News: AMC Will Possibly Renew the Show
As the second season of "Preacher" wrapped up Monday, there is a growing anticipation that the AMC network will not cancel the show just yet.
"Preacher" is a TV series based on the same title comic book franchise from DC Comics' subsidiary Vertigo. The story revolves around the main protagonist named Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper) – a preacher in Texas who was eventually possessed by a supernatural entity named Genesis.
"Preacher" season 2's finale aired on Sept. 11, but AMC has yet to confirm if a third season is in order. Despite the lack of an announcement, a number of people are hopeful that AMC is not putting the series on the chopping block just yet.
Several reports hold on to earlier obtained information that suggested AMC was making the necessary arrangements for the filming of season 3, which would mostly happen in the Big Easy – New Orleans, Louisiana.
Based on TV ratings obtained from The Nielsen Company, the show's season 2 episodes have seen a decrease in viewership numbers, and these are major factors that TV networks consider before deciding whether to axe a show or not.
While the show has gathered a solid fan base during its two-season run, it is not rare for TV networks and producers to cancel a show if the ratings are not doing so well.
However, it is important to note that in July, The Times-Picayune reported that AMC had filed documents with the Louisiana film office in preparation for the supposed filming of "Preacher" season 3 in New Orleans.
The same report mentioned that AMC's documents suggested the pre-production phase of season 3 will begin this November, but the on-location filming in New Orleans will not begin until Jan. 5, 2018.
Meanwhile, the papers also showed AMC is allocating $70 million for the show's production budget – from which $50 million will be spent while the entire crew is in New Orleans.
However, it is important to note that even if AMC gets these documents approved, they can always abandon the plans of going back to Louisiana if they decide to cancel "Preacher" after season 2.
