'Prey': Wide Variety of Skills Creates Different Experiences for Players

Arkane Studios' first-person shooter video game "Prey" is arguably one of the most anticipated titles coming soon in just a few months. Aside from the previously revealed skills the protagonist can use, the team behind the game shows that there are more the players can do.

In the latest video commentary, the developers show varying ways on how to survive and overpower enemies aboard the Talos 1. While weapons and gadgets found aboard the space observatory are basic means for defense and offense, there are more ways to customize and upgrade Morgan Yu's skills.

For one, the player can use what is called Neuromods to gain human skills that he didn't have before, or would want to improve further. Some of the useful skills are the ability to use and upgrade weapons better, move a lot faster, hack into secure areas or even repair a turret, which creates support fire against Typhons.

While a player can finish the game using human abilities only, it won't be any fun without trying Typhon abilities as well. This can be done through the Psychoscope, in which the player scans a Typhon and instantly acquires its abilities, with Mimic and Kinetic Blast as just a few examples of them.

There is a tradeoff, however, in installing alien abilities onto the character. When Morgan Yu acquires a set number of Typhon skills, the turrets will start to recognize him as a Typhon and will start shooting at him, so it will be up to the player to decide to gamble with that or not.

Prior to the skills discussion, the first 35 minutes of the game is also revealed, providing a quick glimpse into the depth of the story. With "Prey" having the best of storytelling and gameplay, there's definitely a lot to look forward to.

"Prey" arrives on PlayStation 4 (PS4), Xbox One and PC on May 5, 2017.
