Prince Charles as King: Prince of Wales Going Political?

There are already reports and rumors on what Prince Charles has in mind when he takes over the throne and what to expect with him as king.

It is being said that Prince Charles could be an "activist king" unlike Queen Elizabeth, who has always stayed neutral when it comes to politics.

Herald Sun is citing reports that when Prince Charles becomes king, he will still intervene with some issues and world affairs.

The rumors about the Prince of Wales becoming an activist king surfaced after his remarks last year on the "rise of populism" and his fear that the lessons of World War II are slowly being forgotten.

His comment on the former comes just before the inauguration of United States president Donald Trump while his World War II remarks were made at the fundraiser this month for humanitarian agency World Jewish Relief.

There, Prince Charles talked about the persecution that Holocaust survivor and former Olympic weightlifting champion Ben Helfgott had to go through.

These remarks were taken to mean, at least by some, as subtle jabs to Trump. It is even rumored the future king is not looking to meet the president because of their opposing stance on global warming.

Despite this, Australians for Constitutional Monarchy former deputy head Peter Cavanagh begs to differ with regard to the idea that Prince Charles will be an activist when he becomes king.

"That is the role of the monarch — to be apolitical. Prince Charles has been schooled for 60 years in the role," he told News Corp via Herald Sun. "I think that's just speculation to say that he will be an activist monarch. I don't think that's the case at all," he went on to say.

He expects that when Prince Charles becomes the king, he will be apolitical as he "can't see him going against his training." Until then, the Prince of Wales is entitled to express his views and opinions like any other person.

In other news, Prince Charles is reportedly planning to declare his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, as Queen immediately after his mother's death.

A source that spoke to The Daily Beast says that they have it all planned out already with Prince Charles "authoritatively" having his wife be addressed as queen.

Before all that, Prince Charles and Camilla will be off to Europe later this month. They will visit Bucharest, Vienna and the Holy See.
