Prince Harry on Royal Pregnancy: 'It's About Time'

Prince Harry has returned from his tour of duty in Afghanistan and is speaking freely about his time abroad and things closer to home, such as his future niece or nephew.

"Obviously I'm thrilled for both of them. It's about time," Harry told reporters. "I spoke to my brother and her, and they're both very well and both very happy obviously. I think it's very unfair that they were forced to publicize it when they were, but that's just the media for you."

Harry was interviewed 10 days after the pregnancy was announced to the public, but his words had to be kept private while he served abroad, according to People magazine. Harry was a huge target for the enemy and was at great risk, as was his entire unit. Now, though, the public is learning more about the younger prince since he is out of danger.

"I literally am very, very happy for them," Harry said. "But I just only hope that she and him – but mainly Catherine – hopefully that she gets the necessary protection to allow her as a mother-to-be to enjoy the privacy that that comes with [it]. I seriously hope that's going to be able to happen."

Catherine's pregnancy was the subject of intense media scrutiny since she was so ill in the first few weeks. Thankfully, she is recovering well and has been able to step out of the media spotlight. Prince William and the rest of the family have been very attendant to Catherine's needs, even giving up the traditional Royal Christmas in order to spend more time with Catherine's family.

Harry is familiar with the spotlight that can be placed on royal mothers; his own mother, the late Princess Diana, was the subject of intense media following. Harry and William grew up in the public eye without much escape except for after Diana's death and their time in the military. Both he and William have spoken about their desire to lead more private, personal lives.
