Prince Slams Madonna, Maroon 5 in New Interview

The Artist Formerly Known as Prince slammed Madonna, a one-time friend whom he enjoyed working with. He also took on Maroon 5 and expressed his true feelings toward the group and Madonna.

"It was always about Madonna. She was getting paid, but at the same time we were selling more records and selling out concerts on multiple nights," Prince explained to Billboard magazine. The two had collaborated on a tour and even dated before having a massive falling out.

"I got so many hits y'all can't handle me. I got more hits than Madonna's got kids," Prince once joked during a 2007 concert, according to Us Weekly.

"He was a little troll," Madonna said of her ex. "He was just sipping tea, very daintily. I have this theory about people who don't eat. They annoy me."

It appeared that the two had reconciled last year, when Madonna showed up at Prince's sold-out show in Madison Square Garden. He actually gave a shout-out to Madonna during the concert, leading many to believe that the decades-long feud was over.

"I know I'm expensive!" Prince joked about Madonna's high-cost concert tickets. It was a light-hearted, positive exchange for everyone involved, even though it seems that the feud has been revived.

Now Prince has also taken on Maroon 5 and critiqued the group's cover of his hit single "Kiss" on the 2012 album Overexposed.

"Why do we need to hear another cover of a song someone else did? Art is about building a new foundation, not just laying something on top of what's already there," Prince told Billboard.

The group has not responded to Prince's comments, but it's unlikely that they will take offense at his words. Prince will be honored with the 2013 Icon Award at the Billboard Music Awards Ceremony in Las Vegas.

The Billboard Music Awards Ceremony will air on May 19.
