'Prison Break' Season 5 News, Updates, Spoilers: Official Trailer for Season 5 Out; Star Wentworth Miller Talked Possible 'Prison Break' Extension
After eight long years, "Prison Break" Season 5 is finally happening; and no one is more excited than Wentworth Miller who plays Michael Scofield in the Fox thriller series. During interviews in the 2016 Attitude Awards in London, England, the "Prison Break" star talked details about the upcoming fifth installment: what to expect, and why it's going to be worth the years-long wait when it returns.
What will happen on "Prison Break" Season 5
In an interview with Digital Spy, Wentworth Miller said "Prison Break" Season 5 will consist of nine episodes, which will air in spring 2017. The new season will be picking up years after the events of Season 4 television movie finale, when Michael Scofield was thought dead after sacrificing himself to save his pregnant wife Sara (Sarah Wayne Callies).
Of course, he actually isn't as revealed in the new "Prison Break" Season 5 trailer. He's imprisoned in Yemen after being framed by international terrorist group ISA and is planning to - surprise - break out of prison. Fans are going to see a switch in roles in "Prison Break" Season 5 as this time, his brother Lincoln (Dominic Purcell) will be the one busting him out of jail.
According to Miller, the cast and crew of "Prison Break" Season 5 felt a huge amount of responsibility in creating a reboot that the show's loyal fanbase deserve. He said they were going to add to what already exists and which fans already love and appreciate, and promised to deliver to the expectations built up after all those years.
But more than keeping to what's already familiar, the "Prison Break" star also teased that the characters themselves are not the same as they have been before. He particularly stressed his character, Michael Scofield, was no longer just a hero - he's become a few other things in the time that's lapsed between. "I think the fans will get a kick out of it," he promised.
More episodes, seasons for "Prison Break"?
The continuity of the series all rests upon the fans, too. Miller revealed that Fox is currently mulling an extension of the cult-favorite thriller series, but it all depends on how "Prison Break" Season 5 is received. This is in stark contrast with show creator Paul Scheuring's previous statements, when he said that the upcoming fifth installment was also the show's last.
Who knows - perhaps there's still room for more stories for the Scofield brothers. "Prison Break" Season 5 will return to television on spring 2017 on Fox.
