Prison Break Reboot News: TV Series to Be Rebooted on Fox
It is official – "Prison Break" is coming back to Fox TV in 2016. Fox has ordered a reboot of the series that was originally from 2005 to 2009. The series will be coming back as a 10-episode limited event series, with no definite release date in 2016 as of yet.
The announcement was made during the Television Critics Association's press tour recently conducted in Beverly Hills by Chairman and CEO Gary Newman He revealed that the reboot will naturally bring back the two brothers who were prominent in the original run of the series. He also confirmed that actors Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell will reprise their roles as the brothers.
"I would describe it as a bit of a sequel. It picks up the characters several years after we left them in the last season of the show. The brothers will be back. Some of the iconic characters from that show will be back," said Dana Walden who is Co-Chairman.
According to the report, bringing back the character played by Miller in the reboot may prove to be a bit problematic as his character perished at the end of the 2009 season. But Walden said that the show's executive producer, Paul Scheuring, proposed a believable pitch for the reboot that would allow viewers to believe the character is still be alive.
Another report in The Verge, the show's return to the small screen can be credited to the fact that it is one of the most watched shows on Netflix. The show garnered a fair share of new fans through the streaming service, with some fans taking posting GIFs on Tumblr to "retell" the show's story. The show is the third show to be revived, after "24" and "the X-Files."
The show followed the story of brothers Lincoln and Michael Burrows. Lincoln is imprisoned after he was wrongly accused of murdering the brother of the vice president. Michael commits a crime in order to be sent to the same prison as his brother so that he can break him out. He has the elaborate escape plan tattooed on his body.
