'Project Cars' Gets May Release Date (VIDEO)

Bandai Namco has just announced US, Canada and the UK will be getting a May release for Slightly Mad Studios' "Project Cars."

Motorsport simulation video game, "Project Cars" has just gotten an unconfirmed May 6 release date from Bandai Namco when the game launches in U.S. and Canada for Microsoft Windows, with boxed and digital versions for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Initially announced for launch this month, the game's release was delayed until May, with definite availability for European and Australian players on May 7, and on May 8 in the U.K. While the May 6 U.S. release still isn't solid, Bandai Namco has guaranteed a mid-May period for game.

According to the developer, the PC version will be headed to the U.S. in May 12, and the game studio is currently working on a Wii U version which they plan to ship at a future date.

"Project Cars" is slated to give players 110 courses based on famous real racetracks from over 30 locations around the world, including U.K.'s Chesterfield, Germany's Nürburgring, France's 24 Hours of Le Mans, and China's Zhuhai International Circuit.

A majority of the locations featured will have several layouts for the different types of car races in the game, as in the case of California's State Route 1, which has been given five separate configurations.

The game started as a crowdfunded project from British independent game company, Slightly Mad Studios, which quickly raised almost $5 million before the developers started seeking a publisher to distribute their ultimate racing experience to gamers.

With Bandai Namco providing publisher backing, Slightly Mad started to expand their game, pushing back the release date three separate times from the original November 2014 schedule to fix bugs and other minor issues.

However, with the glut of other racing games in the market, like "Driveclub," "Forza Horizon 2," and "The Crew," it made sense to hold out on "Project Cars" until the formula and prototype racing game's performance satisfied the high standards of the studio.
