PS4 Availability to be Hindered by Various Issues, Sony Explains

The PS4 availability will be hindered during the next few weeks, according to Sony. Thanks to an overwhelming demand for the console, those who a currently looking for the system will have a hard time finding one.

PlayStation UK executive Fergal Gara recently commented on the matter.

"I can't work [the math] out precisely," he said. "But based on what I've seen so far, I think it is going to be [hard to find a console] until around about April. You might get a fortnight or a week here or there where it is more available, but we should be back to free supply by about April… That's our best guess. It might be a little earlier than that, or it might be a little later But we'll get there."

Gara discussed the strong pre-order numbers that Sony saw before launch. The company doubted the legitimacy of the figures which lead to its current problems with supply.

The console has steadily outsold the Xbox One which is also showing strong numbers. The PS4 has a significant advantage over the Xbox as it is $100 cheaper at $399 for the base model.

Sony recently achieved its goal for selling over 5 million units before the end of its fiscal year, which takes place on March 31, 2014, according to the company. The console has moved around 5.3 million units altogether and is currently out selling the Microsoft's Xbox One in a two-to-one ratio.

This is also a major feat for Sony as the company was able to reach its goal before the PS4's official launch in Japan which will be on Feb. 22. This will bring the console even more ahead of the Xbox One.

Sony unveiled the PlayStation 4 in February of last year. The new system is powered by an eight-core X86 AMD "Jaguar" CPU and a 1.84 Teraflop AMD Radeon graphics engine. It also has 8GB of GDDR5 memory and will use a hard drive for storage instead of SSD.
