PS4 news: PS4 getting a price drop in Japan, will North America be next?

To say Sony dominated this year's Tokyo Game Show would be an understatement. According to Screen Rant, the console manufacturer definitely made an impact during a press conference at the event, especially after it announced a series of games to be released soon. Some of the games much hyped about include Capcom's "Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps," Koei Tecmo's "Nioh," and the pleasantly surprising sequel "Gravity Rush 2." Furthermore, Sony also took the opportunity to showcase its virtual reality headset, PlayStation VR, and how it went perfectly with the MMO "Final Fantasy XIV."

Despite all the upcoming addition that gamers will have to wrap around their budget on, another good news somehow has risen above it all. This is the announcement that a price drop will be happening for the PlayStation 4 (PS4). As of rnow, PS4 is priced at ¥39,980 in Japan; however, the price drop will have fans seeing a reduction of roughly ¥5,000 (around $42), which will make the new price of the console to be ¥34,980. Aside from Japan, the United Kingdom is also confirmed to experience this price decrease, which had many North American gamers hoping for the same thing to happen.

Head of Xbox Phil Spencer recently had an interview with IGN and gave out his predictions, saying that it certainly seems that it will happen for other territories soon enough, if Sony's history is any indication. "I fully expect [Sony] will drop price. When I think about the playbook they've used in the past, we feel good about the plans we have in place going forward in the holiday. If history tells, then we'll see a price drop from them coming." This follows the price drops the three previous PlayStations have also experienced, perhaps to gain more sales. One of the suspected reasons for the immediate lowered price may be because of the fact that the PS4, albeit successful, has not succeeded in topping its predecessor, the PS3.

Whatever the cause is, many still look forward to the price drop, and hope that more decrease will happen in the future. The PS4 will still be quite a good investment for gamers at any rate, if they are worried about the console getting outdated soon, as the PS5 is not expected to be released until 2019.
