PS4 Pro News and Updates: Pro Boost Mode Goes Live

The much awaited firmware update for PlayStation 4 Pro that will bring in the Pro Boost Mode is now live.

The hype around the Pro Boost Mode is understandable since it has been earlier reported to enhance the frame rate performance by up to 40 percent. Apart from the Pro Boost Mode, the PS4 Update 4.50 will also bring in several additional features and functions to the console.

It is important to note that the entire PS4 Update 4.50 also applies to the PS4 and PS4 Slim. However, the highly anticipated Boost Mode is exclusive to the PS4 Pro. According to Sony's announcement, "This feature has been designed to provide better performance for select legacy titles that have not been patched to take advantage of the PS4 Pro's faster CPU and its faster and double-sized GPU."

The Boost Mode for PS4 Pro is promised to "provide a noticeable frame rate boost to some games with variable frame rates, and can provide frame rate stability for games that are programmed to run at 30 Hz or 60 Hz."

However, PS4 Pro players should be reminded that not all games have been upgraded to support 60 frame rates per second.

The PS4 Update 4.50 will also add – across all PS4 platforms – support for an additional memory space through an external drive, custom wallpapers, and a voice chat option for Remote Play.

On the other hand, the PS4 Update 4.50 also comes in with improvements for the PS Virtual Reality headset gear. The same Sony statement mentioned that there has been a noticeable issue of games having a lower quality resolution whenever players use the PS VR and go on a PS4 home screen.

The latest firmware update on the PS4 will allow an ample improvement on the visual and animation aspect of 2D images while using the PS VR on a PS4 system. Added to that, the PS4 Update 4.50 will enhance the Cinematic Mode on the PS VR. Sony promised, "The frame rate of content viewed in Cinematic Mode goes up from 90Hz to 120Hz with this update."

The PS4 Update 4.50 went live starting on March 9.
