PS4 Release Date: Sony to Partner with Virgin Media for Better Bandwidth

Sony announced the release date of the PS4 yesterday at Gamescom to be November 15, and also talked about a new broadband partnership.

The UK launch of the Playstation 4 will be on November 29, and to coincide with the release will be their partnering with Virgin Media. According to the Telegraph, Virgin Media will perhaps be providing broadband bundles for PS4's dedicated gamers who need a higher bandwidth.

The major details are being held under wraps, but promises "loads of exciting benefits for our customers," said executive director of broadband and digital entertainment at Virgin Media, Jon James.

The launch will take place in 32 countries worldwide with the US price being $399. The PS3 will drop to $199.

"We have always been committed to making next generation products but now we're increasingly focused on making those products for next-generation gamers," said Jim Ryan, President and CEO of SCEE to the Telegraph.

Sony also revealed 33 titles to be available on day one.

PS4 games announced according to Forbes are: Assassin's Creed Black Flag, Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Driveclub, FIFA 14, Just Dance 2014, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Knack, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, Madden NFL 25, NBA 2K14, NBA LIVE, Need for Speed: Rivals, Skylanders: Swap Force, and Watch Dogs.

Available for download only is: Basement Crawl, Blacklight, Contrast, Counterspy, DC Universe, Doki-Doki Universe, Flower, Hohokum, Minecraft, N++, Pinball Arcade, Planetside 2, Pool Nation Extreme, ResoGun, Super Motherland, Tiny Brains, War Thunder, Warframe.

The gaming giant showed off a number of trailers at Gamescon yesterday for Rime, Grand Turismo 6, Minecraft, Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag.

Over 1 million PS4 pre-orders have come in so far according to Sony.

"This is strong given Sony sold less than 1M units of PS3 at launch in 4Q'06," said Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia, "and supports our thesis that the upcoming cycle will ramp up faster than the last one."
