PS4 vs Xbox One Graphics: Watch Dogs Runs on 30fps, Developers Finding HD Difficult

The next generation of consoles brought the promise of true HD video gaming into a possibility, but now game developers for the PS4 and Xbox One are finding it increasingly difficult to reach full capacity, 1080p and 60fps, frames per second.

Creative director of the game Watch Dogs, Jonathan Morin, said his studio is currently focusing on 30fps games for all console versions of their games.

"There's always a balance, especially for open world, between the simulation and the rest," he told MCV. "I think for where we are, the most important thing is the steadiness and [ensuring] that it's always capped the same so when you play it, it feels right."

According to the report, he was also unable to confirm if the game will come close to running in 1080p, and said 720p could be where the game winds up.

Video game companies have been finding it difficult to reach this true HD even though that was the ambition of the new consoles. The creators of Battlefield 4 were able to get the formula right, but other big games like Killzone: Shadow Fall were unable to get past 30fps in single player.

Forza 4 will also be in 1080p 60fps, reported MCV.

Both consoles will feature eight core processors on a frequency of 1.6GHz with custom AMD graphics processors and Blu-ray drives, reported The Guardian U.K. PS4 will have slightly better graphics in the lighting and shading departments because of its 18 Compute Units (CU) of processing power compared to XBOX One's 12 CU.

An anonymous source told Edge Online that the PS4 is a more powerful system and it is pretty "significant" and "obvious."

Xbox One tried to combat these rumors but upping the console's clock speed, but according to the anonymous source, "the clock speed update is not significant" and "does not change things that much."

While developers cite the PS4 as the more powerful console, they say the Xbox One writes memory faster.

"Let's say you are using procedural generation or raytracing via parametric surfaces – that is, using a lot of memory writes and not much texturing or ALU – Xbox One will be likely be faster," a source told Now Gamer.

Playstation 4 will launch on Nov. 15 while the Xbox One will debut on Nov. 22.
