Psychological Thriller 'Thoroughbred' Reveals Lead Cast, Includes Olivia Cooke, Anya Taylor-Joy and Anton Yelchin
A psychological thriller film by June Pictures and B Story is coming up and it's titled as "Thoroughbred." According to a report by Deadline, three of the leading stars for the upcoming film has been revealed already starting off with "Me and Earl and the Dying Girl" star Olivia Cooke and "The Witch" actress Anya Taylor-Joy. They will also be joined by "Fright Night" star Anton Yelchin.
PanArmenian Net detailed that the film will be the directorial debut of playwright Corey Finley. It's also said to kick off filming this May already in the East Coast with June's Alex Saks and Andrew Duncan producing with B Story's Kevin J. Walsh, Nat Faxon and Jim Rash. Meanwhile, Ryan Stowell of B Story will be the executive producer.
Aside from the names of the stars who will taking part in the film, not much is known yet on what roles they will be portraying as. Variety did mention though that the movie will be telling about the story of a "tempestuous friendship" between two teenage girls from the suburbs. One is described as a young equestrian rejected after injuring her horse while the other one will be a star student home from her elite boarding school.
However, the movie is also outlined with another plot which is the story of the two girls who learned that a murder might help them solve both of their problems. Screen Crush noted that the concept seems similar to that of Peter Jackson's stellar 1994 film "Heavenly Creature" which starred Kate Winslet and Melanie Lynskey in their screen debuts.
The source also reported that the plot synopsis involves a guidance counselor named Christine Wyckland. Working at a top-tier prep school, she decided to spend some time at home to recover from a panic attack. She has a daughter who is the amateur equestrian. She also suddenly has a student who started coming to school with strange marks on his skin.
