'Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin' News: Preorder Gives PS2 'Psychonauts' for Free
The PlayStation VR is going to have a fun-filled ride with a new title from Double Fine Productions coming its way in February. Before the flashy and riveting world of "Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin" becomes available, the developers have something in store for those who preorder the game.
In a PlayStation blog post, Double Fine's community manager James Spafford has announced that those who preorder the game will also get the PlayStation 2 (PS2) classic "Psychonauts" for free on the PlayStation 4 (PS4). PlayStation Plus members, of course, have the added privilege of getting a 10-percent discount, knocking the original $19.99 price to $17.99.
Spafford adds that "Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin" was designed to be a standalone title, and that it won't require players to know the original game in order for things to make sense. Knowledge of what the previous title was about does have its advantages though, making the deal to make "Psychonauts" free upon preorder a sweet one.
Contrary to the original title which is a 3D platformer, the virtual reality (VR) game uses more of a point-and-click mechanism to navigate the ship and uses Raz's clairvoyance to see through the eyes of his comrades while unlocking puzzles. He will need to get the job done with the use of his psychic abilities and free the Grand Head of the Psychonauts, Truman Zanotto.
The developers behind the title are optimistic that the VR game will be a success, as they envision it to bridge the gap between the original "Psychonauts" and an upcoming sequel. As a matter of fact, "Psychonauts 2" has already caught the interest of many gamers, causing it to exceed its $3.3 million goal in crowdfunding as early as Jan. 13, 2016.
"Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin" arrives on the PS VR on Feb. 21, 2017.
