'PUBG' News, Update: Creator Talks Single-Player Mode and Cross-Play Support
If there is one thing that gamers should not expect in "PlayerUnknown's Battleground," it is a single-player story mode, at least not at the moment.
Game creator Brendan Greene has always expressed interest in adding single-player campaign to "PUBG" since he himself wrote a backstory to the world of the game, but only to help the artists to build the realm.
However, despite the interest and the story in place, he revealed in an interview with GameSpot during the PAX Australia event that single-player is unlikely to come to "PUBG."
Because of the lore of the island, there was an idea that I had for what I thought would be a pretty cool single-player [mode]. And even co-op single-player campaign. We have no resources. We have no time. We have no plans to add anything like this to the game. No, no single-player is coming to "Battlegrounds."
He did say that he would want to explore the "PUBG" lore "maybe someday," but there is no telling when and if it will ever pan out. Whether he will do so through single-player or not remains to be seen. For now, there is nothing planned just yet.
Apart from single-player, another thing he is keen on doing is adding cross-play support on "PUBG" between the PC and the Xbox One with the Game Preview version for the latter set to be released later this year:
Because the experience is going to be the same on both platforms, we really want these players to play together. How we do that fairly is another question.
It's something we're looking into, but right now we don't have anything to say about it. But we would like to see it happen. But how we do that requires a bit of work.
Much like the single-player campaign mode, cross-play support for "PUBG" is not set in stone yet.
