'Quantico' Season 2B Return Date, Spoilers: Second Half Changes Include New Format, Story

The first half of "Quantico" season 2 has concluded, and fans can expect more than one change for the rest of the nine episodes left. Not only will the series alter its format, it will also see a shift in storyline.

First, there is going to be more than one enemy in the upcoming second half of the season. This much was revealed by executive producer Josh Safran when he sat down for an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

"They are after the people responsible for putting terrorism out in the world and all that implies, be it financially, be it legally, be it in the use of the media," Safran revealed to EW. "So there isn't a big bad but there are several big bads that they are gonna be hunting down."

Additionally, Safran also teased that there is still one more person missing from the lineup of FBI and CIA operatives that President Claire Haas (Marcia Cross) chose. Apart from that, a familiar face, Caleb (Graham Rogers), will be taking a larger role in the back half. Safran confirmed that Caleb will be returning to oversee the new task force Claire assembled, which includes Alex (Priyanka Chopra), Ryan (Jake McLaughlin), Shelby (Johanna Braddy), Nimah (Yasmine al Massri), and Dayana (Pearl Thusi).

The first half of "Quantico" season 2 saw two timelines unfolding: the past and the present. But fans can expect the format of the show to change for the second half since the two timelines have already coincided. While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Safran noted that the format of the first half, as well as their schedule, made it hard for viewers to follow the plot. This resulted in many abandoning the show. However, Safran hopes that streamlining the story will encourage people to give the show another shot.

"Maybe we went a little too far with the serialization this year in that everything was connected in every way," Safran realized in retrospect. "Now, moving forward with the one timeline and streamlined story, you can still see the way in which things are connected, but you don't have to have seen that to understand what's happening."

"Quantico" season 2 is taking a short break before returning on Monday, March 20, at 10 p.m. EDT on ABC.
