'Rare Replay' Review: Collection of Classic Games Overview
Gamers from the previous generations rarely get to revisit some of the classic games that became popular decades ago. Thanks to developer Rare Ltd and publisher Microsoft Studios, veteran players and newcomers can now play games like "Perfect Dark," "Banjo Kazooie," and "Viva Pinata" through the "Rare Replay Collection."
The "Rare Replay Collection" features 30 games that were all developed by Rare, in celebration of the companys 30th anniversary. They compiled some of the adventures of its iconic characters from games that span the decades. From its earliest 2D classics to Xbox 360 hits, "Rare Replay" brings a gaming lineup for everyone, whether old-time or latest generation gamers. For a price of $30 USD, it's an absolute bargain.
Aside from the titles in the collection, "Rare Replay" contains surprise features as well. For starters, it includes a meta-game which will see the player collecting stamps in order to unlock interviews with Rare employees, documentaries on the making of classics like Conker and Killer Instinct and even a glimpse of the unreleased games. There are also a lot of achievements to unlock, which ultimately comes to a Gamerscore of 10,000, according to IT News Africa.
The player will be welcomed with a theatrical presentation, complete with a wonderful musical number and charming transitions. It gives off that playful vibe that suits the collection. While there are lots of games to choose from, there are those particular ones that just really hold up the label of worth revisiting. An example is the "Banjo-Kazooie," which IGN labeled as one of the best 3D platformers ever made. With charming characters, a great music backdrop and variety of levels, the game was a lot of fun when it was released.
While most of the games run well, some of the titles included in the collection do not play too well with the Xbox One controller, according to IGN. Players may have trouble with Conker in "Conker's Bad Fur Day," "Jetpac" and "Atic Atac."
