'Real Housewives of New Jersey' season 7 may be unlikely due to show's lack of 'authenticity'
The "Real Housewives of New Jersey" (RHONJ) once captured viewers' attention in 2009 with its unabashed show of wealth and constant slandering amid the aftermath of the global financial crisis. However, the reality show is reportedly in trouble for lack of "authenticity," leading to an unlikely seventh season.
Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice's compulsory stay at the Federal Correctional Institute in Danbury, Connecticut has evidently affected the franchise. Season 6 was a failure because Bravo did not let the RHONJ stars "sugar-coat" their situation when real life became so messed up, according to NJ.com.
When RHONJ debuted in May 2009, the viewers were attracted to it mainly because it allowed them to express both their envious and judgmental sides, especially when it came to the stars' gaudy taste in stuff. But the situation shifted in late 2010 when Joe and Teresa Giudice filed for bankruptcy and their still lavish televised lifestyle did not match what the news said about them.
The Giudices were eventually indicted on bankruptcy and mail fraud and pleaded guilty to those charges. Still, they did not claim responsibility for their actions and instead claimed that they were victims of the financial crisis. Teresa even zeroed in on a $1.4 million mansion, which she claimed was for business purposes only, while her prison sentence loomed over the show.
Meanwhile, Chris and Jacqueline Laurita revealed that they decided to sell their Franklin Lakes mansion to allow them to focus more on the financial costs of their son's treatment for autism. But they did not address the brewing issue about them living a high-maintenance lifestyle using the money from Chris' bankrupt clothes firm. The Lauritas' situation further underscored the incongruence between the RHONJ storyline and the real-life situation of the characters, the report explains.
While there were rumors about Joe and Teresa Giudice returning for the RHONJ season 7 after the latter's 15-month stint in prison, the rumors have not yet been confirmed. Nevertheless, the Giudice family managed to snag a spin-off featuring their life while Teresa is in prison, Thy Black Man reports.
As of now, Teresa has started writing her personal memoir that features her humble beginnings and the details on her experience in prison. She will be released in December and will reportedly be on house arrest for the remainder of her sentence.
