'Real Housewives' Ramona Singer Delayed Divorce to Keep Marital Woes off Show? 'Very Calculated'

"Real Housewives of New York" star Ramona Singer reportedly delayed her divorce filing until after filming for season 6 ended in order to maintain her privacy.

Last month the Bravo TV star, 57, is believed to have filed for divorce from Mario, her husband of 27 years, in the wake of a cheating scandal, but the drama will not be played out on the hit reality TV show. Ramona reportedly waited for filming to wrap up before filing to ensure that Bravo TV cameras could not capture the breakdown of her marriage, according to RadarOnline.com.

"It was only after completing filming of RHONY. Ramona knew for months that Mario had been cheating on her ... she only chose to confront him and Kasey at their Hamptons home after the cameras had long disappeared," a source told Radar.

The Manhattan based socialite reportedly "threw a fit and called the cops" in late January after finding her estranged husband at their Southampton home with socialite Kasey Dexter. The Singers reportedly agreed that Ramona would reside in their Manhattan home and that Mario would move into their Southampton house in the wake of their separation which occurred last year, The New York Post's Page Six reported.

"It was a very calculated decision on Ramona's part … Ramona didn't want her divorce drama to become a storyline on the show," the insider revealed.

"She hopes that the divorce will be settled and done with before the next season begins filming," the source went on. "It's humiliating for Ramona to live this nightmare, and she doesn't want it to play out on television."

The reality TV star, who shares a teenage daughter Avery with Mario, has yet to publicly confirm whether infidelity caused the breakdown of her marriage, but she alluded to the split in a recent statement.

"This is a personal and private matter for our family," Ramona said in a statement obtained by People.com on Wednesday. "For my daughter Avery's sake, I would appreciate everyone respecting our privacy during this difficult time."

In October Ramona publicly denied reports claiming Mario had been unfaithful. Insiders claimed the father of one impregnated another woman however the reality star insisted these reports are false.

Mario, who is a successful Entrepreneur, is reportedly barely featured in the upcoming season – which premieres in March. Viewers will see "Ramona deal with rumors of Mario's infidelity…..He will hardly be in the upcoming season."

"They were basically separated during the entire course of filming. Their daughter, Avery, is away at college in Atlanta, and Ramona has been living alone in the New York City apartment for months," the insider continued. "It's really sad because Ramona has told friends how empty and quiet it is without either one of them around."
