'Red Dead Redemption 2' Update: Double Action Shooter From Upcoming Game Now in 'Grand Theft Auto Online'
"Red Dead Redemption 2" may still be in development, but Rockstar Games is already revving up the hype machine, this time by introducing an item coming to the western-themed title to the players of "Grand Theft Auto Online."
Rockstar Games has added the Double-Action Revolver to "Grand Theft Auto Online," and it's free to all players. There's a quest linked with the item too, which can earn "GTA" players a ton of in-game money and the chance to unlock it for their "Red Dead Redemption 2" characters ahead of time.
"Rumors of a lost relic from the frontier have begun to surface, and treasure awaits those bold enough to seek it," Rockstar Games described the new objective in their "Grand Theft Auto Online" newswire update on Friday, Dec. 15.
Players just have to keep checking their iFruit notifications in-game over the next few days, and a message should come up offering the first clue. Following the trail of clues and objectives will eventually unlock the gold Double-Action Revolver in the game.
Using the new weapon, players can then attempt the new Headshot Challenge unlocked for their Freemode, for a chance to win $250,000 in in-game money, as well as a marker that unlocks the gun for their characters when "Red Dead Redemption 2" comes out next year.
This Headshot Challenge in the "Grand Theft Auto Online" Freemode could also be a preview of what's coming to "Red Dead Redemption 2" later when it launches, as Cinema Blend points out. The "Grand Theft Auto" series has honed the open-world shooter aspect to a polished foundation that the new western title can simply build on and improve.
In the trailer below, Rockstar Games shows off the photorealistic graphics of the upcoming "Red Dead Redemption 2," which is set to come out in spring of 2018 to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
