'Red Faction II' Latest News: Sequel Removed from Germany's List of Banned Games
THQ has just announced that "Red Faction II" is no longer part of the banned games in Germany. The country has decided to remove the sequel from its banned games list and fans in the region are rejoicing.
According to the official press release obtained by Gamasutra, it was revealed that "Red Faction II" had to go through some changes before the ban was lifted. "At THQ Nordic we were aware of the implications of this momentous decision, and needed to adopt a bold approach," publishing director of the company, Jans Binsmaier, explained.
The first installment of the series was previously removed from Germany's list of banned games. The sequel's removal is one of the biggest reasons why THQ is in celebration mode these days. After all, the company has been waiting for the ban to be lifted.
Germany is very much known in the gaming universe for putting bans on a lot of video games. When a game is released in the country, there are several tests that it has to undergo before it can be officially released to fans. There are numerous restrictions that Germany puts on titles.
"Red Faction" was banned for 15 years in the country. According to Game Informer, it was finally removed from the banned list in October of last year. At first, both the first and second installments of the game were considered too violent for youth. However, it appears that analysts who checked into the games' themes may have decided this time that it is no longer "harmful" to younger players.
Germany takes pride in its List of Media Harmful to Young People. The list includes around 380 titles that Germany thinks is too violent for young gamers. The list is also notorious for including music, printed material, movies and other related material.
"Red Faction II" is playable on the PlayStation 2, PC, and Xbox platforms.
