'Reign' Season 3 Spoilers, Plot Rumors: Is Francis Going to Die?
The official synopsis for season 3 of "Reign" was recently revealed and it seems that a strong struggle for power will occur immediately in the first episode entitled "Three Queens, Two Tiger."
The synopsis reads, "ONLY ONE QUEEN WILL REIGN. Queen Mary (Adelaide Kane) struggles to hold on to her power in Scotland amid Queen Elizabeth's (Rachel Skarsten) campaign to sabotage her with the help of a new ally in Queen Catherine (Megan Follows). Meanwhile, with Francis' (Toby Regbo) fate at odds and Elizabeth distracted by temptation in her first love, Robert Dudley (Charlie Carrick), both queens struggle to rule."
It seems that Francis' fate will be revealed immediately, especially since many saw him struggling with his health in the season 2 finale. Although it doesn't seem to say that he will likely meet his death, many assume it could be a possibility.
Furthermore, showrunner Laurie McCarthy shared to Entertainment Weekly more about Francis' fate and what can be expected in the upcoming season, "Young men, even young kings, do not live forever."
The real Francis died young, and while we take historical liberties, we adhere to the major signposts of Mary, Queen of Scots' life. Moreover, the foreshadowing of Francis' eventual but untimely death has been woven into our story from the outset." She also mentions Nostradamus, being the only one who is helping the king cope with his illness, will be making an appearance again. McCarthy goes, "He will be in the series intermittently, but he's still really pissed at Catherine, so I don't think he really feels a great desire to be under her thumb again."
Toby Regbo, who plays Francis, did share a bit to fans about the scenes they are filming. He didn't say anything specific but he did give away the tone of the episodes. "I can't tell you much, but I can tell you that we've shot a few scenes that are going to make you cry — and they're really, really good."
He also mentioned a particular scene that is supposed to get fans all enmotional, "There's a dance in it. There's a dance that we filmed, and it's really lovely. It made everyone cry. You're going to cry."
For now, fans await what will happen to Francis as season 3 of "Reign" premieres on The CW this Friday, Oct. 9, 8 p.m. ET.
