'Reign' season 3 news, cast, spoilers: Cancellation may be looming in at the end of season 3

"Reign" might be ending its "reign" after the third season. It seems that despite the planned introduction of the most exciting characters in this season, so far, the ratings have been dismal for The CW show, which paints a pretty vague picture of the show's future.

Howeverr, fans of the TV show shouldn't immediately lose hope. According to TV By The Numbers, the royal drama is in between a possible renewal or cancellation for May 2016. After the episodes this season have been lowered down from 22 to 18, and then moved to Friday nights, bit by bit, all the recent moves done to the show seem like it will just continue lowering down its chances of being renewed. Along with the unstable position of "Reign" is the show "The 100."

The third year of "Reign" is up for some intense story lines. It is said that Queen Elizabeth's power will be involved in the upcoming episodes. Rachel Skarsten, who plays Queen Elizabeth, shares about what she looks forward to the most in her character's experience. Skarsten shares, "I'm looking forward to sort of playing not only her strength, but also her insecurities.Elizabeth especially has arguably one of the most powerful nations in the world and viewed as somewhat illegitimate felt incredible insecurity about keeping her place." She also mentions something about going after Queen Mary Stuart (Adelaide Kane).

Speaking of Mary, her situation may be getting more difficult. With the end of season 2, her and and Francis are on rocky ground after her affair with Louis Conde. Showrunner Lauri McCarthy explains to Entertainment Weekly that Mary will continuously be bound by feelings of loyalty to Condo rather than love. McCarthy shares, "I think she feels like she turned to him at a moment when she needed somebody. She did it as a way to not feel the feelings that she was having for Francis, which were so mixed with regret and remorse and pain of the experiences that she endured this year. So, I think that they've been drifting closer to each other for some time now."

Fans await to see where the tension surrounding the plotlines will head to as season 3 of "Reign" begins on Friday, Oct. 9 at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
