'Resident Evil 2' HD Remake Release Confirmation, Fans Happy
One of the world's most classic zombie survival video games is getting a remake. "Resident Evil 2" which was originally released in 1998 as a video game for the PlayStation console, will remade for modern consoles. The announcement was made by Capcom producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi through a short video clip.
In the video, Hirabayashi said that the HD remake of "Resident Evil 2" has been given the go-signal and he also expressed his "thanks to your incredible passion and support," apparently referring to the fans and supporters of the game.
The video somewhat confirmed that Hirabayashi will also be heading the project up at Capcom.

"You've been telling us for years that you want Resident Evil 2 to be remade, and we haven't been able to make it happen … until now! We at R&D Division 1 will do our best to take on your feedback and delivery the gameplay experience you've been waiting for," he said.
Hirabayashi also headed the team that worked on the HD remake of "Resident Evil" which was released early this year.
The video announcement however was silent about what platforms the game will be made for. As for when the HD remake will be available, fans may need to hold their breath for some time, if Hirabayashi's statement is any indication. He said that the project is in the "very early stages of development" and "it will be some time before [Capcom] can bring you an update on this project."
The company has been earning from remakes of its classic game, so much so that it has "highlighted re-releases as a 'key business activity'" and that it intends to do more in the future.
"HD remasters of our catalogue hit titles will be one of our key business activities [digital sales] created new demand for these titles. For example, overseas download sales of 'Resident Evil' (HD Remastered) in the past year were far higher than we expected," a statement read.
