'Rick and Morty' Could Be Back For Its New Season Later This Year

Fans who are expecting to see new clips for the third season of "Rick and Morty" were left disappointed when the new "trailer" released turned out to be a bust.

Adult Swim trolled viewers when it released a special trailer titled "Previously Unreleased Song" this week. After 16 months of waiting for updates on when the animated science fiction sitcom would be released, many were understandably upset when the promised teaser turned out to be a compilation of old clips.

The last episode aired for "Rick and Morty" was in Oct. 4, 2015. Since then, creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland have yet to announce an exact date on when the next installment will air.

Last January, Harmon attended the Sundance Film Festival and explained to the press the reason for the delay. The original release date was set for 2016, but it has been pushed back for the simple reason that season 3 is not finished yet. Speculations predict that 2017 may be the year chosen by Adult Swim for the series' comeback. Harmon revealed that he and Roiland are the reasons why season 3 is late. He said they frequently could not agree on many things about the production.

"If Justin were here he'd agree. He and I would go, 'Yeah, we f***** up,' and it's hard to put your finger on how we f***** up. 'Rick and Morty' keeps taking longer and longer to write, and I don't know why," Harmon told Indie Wire.

He adds: "We have fights all the time and then we have fights about why we're having fights. Well, we didn't fight during Season 2, that's why it's taking longer! All this fighting! So OK, let's stop fighting!"

"Rick and Morty" follows the adventures of an eccentric scientist named Rick Sanchez and his nephew Morty as they time travel in different dimensions.
