'RiME' Release Date, News: Game Was Well-Received in PAX South

Most games in the market deal with themes of battle and damage-dealing. But for Tequila Works and Greybox, they are creating a game that focuses more on leisurely solving puzzles while exploring a vast open world, and thus "RiME" was created.

During the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) South held in San Antonio, Texas last Jan. 27 to 29, the people behind the title set up a booth where participants can experience "RiME" for about 15 minutes. During this time, players can marvel at the stunning landscapes or try to tease their minds by solving the puzzles within the title.

As per a blog on the game's official website, the title has been received positively. There were long lines of participants who wish to get their hands wet in the world of "RiME," and they all waited patiently, saying it was definitely worth waiting for. As souvenirs, fox plushies were distributed, which represents the animal guide that helps the boy traverse through the mysterious yet captivating island.

That's not all. 15 lucky individuals also got to bring home a piece of the game as they were given unique pieces of concept art printed on canvas which were autographed by the dev team.

It has received generally positive reviews from the said event. Hardcore Gamer said, "This is a title that has every indication of being fun and engaging. The design, look, and gameplay that I saw leads me to believe that it will be an instant classic when it launches in May."

The reveal trailer for the game follows the exploits of a young boy who finds himself washed ashore in what appears to be an enigmatic island. He is accompanied by a fox who guides him through the vast terrain while solving puzzles and chasing down a man in a red cape.

"RiME" is set to make its way to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Steam platforms on May 2017.
