Rio Olympics 2016: Swimming, Track & Field Events, Full Schedule - Live Streaming Info, Dates and TV Broadcast Schedule

The swimming competitions at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro are scheduled to take place from Aug. 6 to 13 at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium, while the open-water marathon will be held on Aug. 15 and 16 in Fort Copacabana. Swimming will follow the same format in 2012, where a total of 34 events were featured (17 each for men and women), including two 10 km open-water marathons. The event schedule will occur in two segments. For the pool events, prelims are held in the afternoon to be followed by the semifinals and finals in the evening-night session.

Athletics, on the other hand, will be held for 10 days from Aug. 12 to 21 at the Olympic Stadium. The said event is split into four distinct sets of events including track and field, road running and racewalking. For track and field, Joao Havelange Stadium will serve as the venue where 10 events will hold finals in the morning session to ensure maximum visibility for the sport across all time zones.

Sports fans and afficionados are sure to go bananas during these two events because Rio Olympics is staged to be the most media covered sporting event even when there is still over a week to go. Several networks including the NBCUniversal's digital platforms will collectively host a mind-boggling 6,755 hours of programming. Fans will also enjoy 4K Ultra HD and Virtual Reality programming.

Both swimming and track and field events are staged to be covered by NBC. The network also earned passage to cover the open ceremony on Aug. 5 and the closing ceremony on Aug. 21. Many of the XXXI Olympic's most popular sports including swimming, gymnastics, track and field, diving, beach volleyball, volleyball, and the men's and women's basketball finals will be aired throughout the network's programming.

Generally, the primetime programming will air from 8 p.m. to midnight ET/PT, daytime from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET/PT, late night from 12:35 a.m. to 1:35 a.m. ET/PT and replays from 1:35 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. ET/PT.

NBC Olympics will also distribute 4K Ultra HD coverage through cable and satellite subscriptions. Although handicapped with a day's worth of delay, 4K UHD is another way to catch swimming, track and field and local Rio scenery, which are set to be streamed as well.

Meanwhile, on the sidelight, powerhouse Russia's athletics team still suffers from a ban promulgated on June 17 when the International Association of Athletics Federations unanimously voted to oust following a doping scandal where the team got tangled.
