'Rise of the Tomb Raider' Endurance Mode DLC: Lara Croft Can Starve to Death or Die in the Cold

"Rise of the Tomb Raider" introduced a new add-on content recently. This is the Endurance Mode DLC that makes the heroine Lara Croft's situation in the wild more realistic.

Released on Tuesday, Dec. 29, "Rise of the Tomb Raider's" Endurance Mode DLC puts Lara Croft in her "ultimate woman-versus-wild test." The new DLC will test the character's limits in terms of how she can survive in the game's harshest environments where she will start off with nothing. Players must help Lara collect scant resources, craft the things she needs, hunt for food, and stay warm in the cold; otherwise, Lara will freeze or starve to death, as Kotaku found out.

Food and warmth are separately timed resources that need to be replenished at regular intervals, according to Kotaku. Lara needs both to survive; lacking one and she dies.

Staying true to the game's main mechanical pillars, the Endurance Mode DLC doubles Lara's scavenging requirements, adding food and other resources to the many artifacts that she needs to collect.

In addition to human enemies, wolves, bears, and other wild animals will also threaten Lara's survival in what is dubbed as "the game's toughest challenge so far." To power her weapons, Lara can harvest resources for ammunition.

"Rise of the Tomb Raider's" Endurance Mode DLC joins the game's growing number of add-on content. Previously, "Rise of the Tomb Raider" received two costume packs. There's the Prophet's Legacy DLC that gives Lara the "Immortal Guardian" outfit, the "Piercing Truth" dagger, and a card pack. Meanwhile, the Siberian Ranger DLC gives Lara the "Siberian Ranger" outfit, the "Accipiter Nox" semi-automatic pistol skin, and a card pack. The two costume packs are available for $2.99 each.

"Rise of the Tomb Raider's" Endurance Mode DLC is available for $9.99. "Rise of the Tomb Raider" is developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix.
