'Rise of the Tomb Raider' for PS4 and PC Coming in 2016 After Xbox Timed Exclusive
Fans of Lara Croft and the "Tomb Raider" video game series will be glad to hear the recent news that the newest game of the rebooted series, "Rise of the Tomb Raider" will be coming to other platforms as well and not just on Xbox consoles.
According to a Forbes report, the game was originally announced for the Xbox consoles during the E3 2015, leading some quarters to think that the game will be released exclusively for the said consoles. However, in a recent press release, Square Enix announced that the arrangement with Xbox is a "timed exclusive" and will only last one single year. Square Enix is the other publisher of the upcoming game.
The announcement also revealed that the Steam/PC version of the game will be released in "early 2016" while the PS4 version will be arriving in the holiday 2016, which is a little over one year after the November 2015 Xbox release.
The report also noted that releasing the game as an Xbox exclusive may affect game sales, given the limited audience of the Xbox compared to the two popular platforms, Steam/PC and PlayStation 4. It also noted that quite a few games have been successful with an Xbox exclusive release.
"Rise of the Tomb Raider" is a third-person action adventure game developed by Crystal Dynamics. It is a sequel to the 2013 "Tomb Raider" game, which was considered as a reboot of the "Tomb Raider" series, which reconstructs the origins of the game's protagonist, Lara Croft.
At the E3 2015, the game's trailer showed amazing detail featured in the game, as well as gameplay that is somewhat similar to that of "Tomb Raider." Croft is the playable character, which the player controls as she goes through different environments, fights it out with different enemies, scavenges for resources to use as well as crafts new weapons. The game also features a day-and-night cycle as well as an "in-game weather system." Stealth and sneak attacks were also added to Croft's combat tactics.
