Writer Grant Morrison reportedly told the publication: "He saves the world. He does his job as Robin. He dies an absolute hero."

In the offshoot series, Robin is the 10 year old son of Bruce Wayne. His real name is Damian Wayne, and meets his demise battling against an assassin who is in fact a type of brother of his - cloned directly from his own genetic make-up.

It is believed that Batman does come to the rescue to help his son, but he arrives too late, and Robin the Boy Wonder is tragically killed by the evil assassin.

Robin, according to the comic book series, was the illegitimate son of Bruce Wayne, conceived with the daughter of one of Batman's most fierce arch enemies, Ra's al Ghul.

Morrison also told the NYPost: "It's all about the family and the family going to hell. The two adults in the story are both culpable. The kid's the good guy."

Talking about the character development of Robin the Boy Wonder since his introduction in 2006, Morrison explained, "What we did was turn this little monster into a superhero. He's a little brat, but he's a super-brat."

Indicating that somehow Robin the Boy Wonder could return from the dead, or that a new sidekick will take his place in the aftermath of the latest storyline, Morrison also revealed, "You can never say never in a comic book . . . Batman will ultimately always have a partner."
