'Rocket League' Season 2 Brings New Divisions, Changes to Ranked Play and Point System

As promised, developer Psyonix has revealed "Rocket League's" season 2 details last week. Here's what the new season brings to the game's Competitive Play and more.

"The next patch (scheduled for February) will bring an end to the first season of competitive Rocket League!" Psyonix said. "We've been listening to all of your awesome feedback regarding Season 1 and incorporating a TON of improvements for Season 2 and beyond."

In season 2, Psyonix will introduce a "fresh approach" to the game. Specifically, "Rocket League's" second online season will focus on how well players play and improve in their game rather than on single wins and losses.

"Rocket League" season 2 will introduce the following changes to rank play and divisions.

First, Psyonix has renamed ranked play to "Competitive Matchmaking" to make it easier for players to differentiate the game type from casual matchmaking in the playlist.

Rank Points will also be removed in the upcoming season. In its place, the game will make use of Skill Rating to determine a player's division.

Speaking of division, Psyonix will be replacing season 1's 10 divisions with 12 new ones. The new divisions are as follows:

Rising Star
All-Star
Superstar
Champion
Challenger I
Challenger II
Challenger III
Challenger Elite
Prospect I
Prospect II
Prospect III
Prospect Elite

Players will have no rank yet when playing their first 10 games in the season. This means, they need to play 10 competitive matches to place in the mentioned titles and divisions. For existing players, their skill data from season 1 will "heavily influence" their final division placement.

In addition, the number of players in the top division no longer has a limit. As long as they meet the required skill rating, they will be placed there.

The introduction of the new divisions is coupled with changes to promotion and demotion. Players will get promoted to the next division if their skill rises consistently and doesn't get demoted after losing a game or two.

"Rocket League's" leaderboard will still be available. The leaderboard will list the top 100 players of each division based on skill rating.

"Rocket League" season 2 is scheduled to start next month, but Psyonix has not announced the exact date yet.
