Rockstar Explains Lack of 'GTA 5' Single-Player DLC, Teases Possible Release

Since the release of "Grand Theft Auto 5" ("GTA 5"), Rockstar Games has not released any single-player content, seemingly focused on expanding the online component of the game.

However, Rockstar director of design Imran Sarwar explained in an interview with Game Informer that the lack of new single-player content was not the intention, saying "it's just what happened."

He explained that the single-player campaign that came with "GTA 5" was already "absolutely massive and very, very complete" and that it is a big as three games.

This does not mean that they will not come out with "GTA 5" single-player content in the future since they "love single-player more than anything, and believe in it absolutely."

Also, the team got busy with putting together the console versions of the game, which they chomped through for a year. Then they built on the online component because it "had a lot of potential."

Sarwar then explained that the studio also worked on their new titles like the highly anticipated western shooter sequel "Red Dead Redemption 2."

While this provided them no time for story-centric expansions for "GTA 5", they have not closed their doors on the possibility:

The combination of these three factors means for this game, we did not feel single-player expansions were either possible or necessary, but we may well do them for future projects. At Rockstar, we will always have bandwidth issues because we are perfectionists and to make huge complex games takes a lot of time and resources. Not everything is always possible, but we still love single-player open-world games more than anything. I don't think you could make a game like "GTA 5" if you did not like single-player games and trying to expand their possibilities!

Sarwar said that Rockstar is a huge fan of single-player due to the possibilities of storytelling and a sense of immersion in a world that multiplayer just won't provide.

For now, nothing is set in stone yet for "GTA 5" single-player releases though fans now have a reason to hope that such content will see the light of day in the future.
