'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' News: Classic X-Wing Pics Leaked

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has just recently come out as a certified box office hit, but fans can't seem to get enough of the galaxy far, far away and now a brand-new "Star Wars" movie is making headlines. A publication has leaked a major clue to the upcoming movie, "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story."

On Monday, Jan. 11, entertainment news website TMZ published photos of what appear to be a classic X-Wing. The X-Wing is best remembered as the fighter plane Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) used to destroy the Death Star. The aircraft is the main fighter ship used by Rebel Alliance fighters in the "Star Wars" films.

The leaked images of the X-Wing could mean that at least one will appear in the film, but that is not certain at this point. As the images were reportedly taken at Pinewood Studios, the same studio where "The Force Awakens" was filmed, IBTimes supposes it could also be possible that it was left behind on set from the previous movie. However, unlike the X-Wing in "The Force Awakens," which had two engines, the one in the leaked images has four engines just like the original planes. Fans will have to wait for more clues to see where this piece of the puzzle fits, if ever.

"Rogue One" tells the story of a group of resistance fighters and their plan to steal the blueprints of the Death Star. "Rogue One" is set before "A New Hope." The previous movie saw the Death Star plan hidden in R2-D2 and Darth Vader chasing after it. Because of this, it has been reported that Darth Vader will appear in the film, although he won't be the main antagonist.

Confirmed actors to star in the film include Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, and Riz Ahmed.

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is expected to be the first installment of the new stand-alone "Star Wars Anthology" series. The movie is scheduled to release on Dec. 16.
