'Rogue One' Cast News: Mads Mikkelsen Drops Important Clues About His 'Star Wars' Character

In a recent interview, "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" actor Mads Mikkelsen revealed some important details about his as-yet-unnamed character, suggesting that, like the rest of the "Star Wars" films, "Rogue One" may be a bit of a family saga.

During an appearance on Sky News, Mikkelsen spoke about his character's relationship to Jyn Erso, the "Rogue One" protagonist played by "The Theory of Everything" star Felicity Jones. The actor, whose mystery character was entirely absent from the film's first trailer, revealed that he is playing the role of Jyn's father in "Rogue One."

According to the actor, who admitted that he was initially scared about entering the Star Wars universe, "I read the script and it was very beautiful, and Felicity is playing this lovely, strong woman and I play her father."

"And that was too much. I'm sorry," he quipped.

Given that Mikkelsen wasn't merely toying with fans eager to learn anything about the upcoming "Star Wars" spinoff, the actor's surprising revelation is the first bit of insider news about the film, details on which are being heavily guarded.

The "Rogue One" actor also went on to drop several other details about "Rogue One," acknowledging the speculation about a Darth Vader appearance and sharing that the film will have a mix of old and new characters.

"It's the very first one, it's before anything you've ever seen in the Star Wars universe," Mikkelsen said about the film.

When asked about whether or not he could confirm a Darth Vader cameo, the actor answered, "Yes I can, but I won't."

Speaking to the Standard Online, Mikkelsen explained that, like "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" (2015), "Rogue One" features both familiar and unfamiliar faces. When asked if Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Carrie Fisher (Princess/General Leia), and other cast members from the original trilogy appear in the film, Mikkelsen answered:

"Some of them – but I would reveal too much. There are iconic characters in our film and also characters you have never heard of. It's a mix."

During his Sky News interview, Mikkelsen also spoke about the mystery character he plays in Marvel's "Doctor Strange." According to the actor, he plays a villain who is "not really a baddie, but someone who believes in something else that Doctor Strange believes in."

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is now in post production and is slated for a December 16 release. "Doctor Strange" drops November 4.
