Ronda Rousey UFC 2015 News: Star Posts Fan Art to Lobby for 'Captain Marvel' Role
Ronda Rousey has upped the ante in what appears to be a quest for a "Captain Marvel" role with fan art posted on her Instagram account.
Undefeated UFC bantamweight women's champion, Ronda Rousey, has made no secret of her desire to play Ms. Marvel/Captain Marvel, a wish she made known via her Reddit account. She posted fan art of her wearing the costumes on her Instagram.
With the Marvel Cinematic Universe engine churning out its scheduled superhero films annually, Rousey may be using her clout to lobby for a part as Carol Danvers, otherwise known as Ms. Marvel, in a feature film Marvel Studios has scheduled for a November 2018 release.
The mixed martial arts fighter has taken to posting realistic fan art depicting her in various Ms. Marvel costumes, appearing to further signaling her intention to nab the currently uncast role.
The colorfully-rendered images were submitted by Rousey fan artists, among them @bosslogix, @alexmurilloart, Hugo Dourado, and @salman.artworks, after the fighter attended a special AMA event on Reddit five days ago where answered a fan question pointing to Ms. Marvel/Captain Marvel as her superhero role of choice.
Rousey, who is also a New York Times bestselling author for her autobiography and soon-to-be Paramount Pictures biopic, "My Fight/Your Fight," already has a few action films to her name like "The Expendables 3," "Furious 7" and "Entourage." She is also in the pre-production stage alongside Mark Wahlberg for the upcoming Peter Berg CIA action film, "Mile 22."
Though she already has a storied MMA career, starring in a big budget Marvel superhero movie appears to be the next step to take for the first female UFC champion at the peak of her game.
Rousey sent a shoutout on her Instagram account to the number of contributing artists who sent her the fan art. The images have gathered over 200 thousand likes on social media.
