Rose McGowan Slams Meryl Streep for Plans of Silent Protest at Upcoming Golden Globes
Rose McGowan slams Meryl Streep for planning a silent protest at the upcoming Golden Globes awards.
McGowan, who was victimized by film producer Harvey Weinstein's sexual misconduct and is very vocal about the issue, criticized Streep for cooking up a silent protest at the 2018 Golden Globes.
The silent protest involves Hollywood actresses such as Streep, Jessica Chastain, and Emma Stone, wearing all black, to symbolize their movement in addressing the culture of harassment and misconduct in the industry.
However, McGowan believes that this silent movement will not have any impact. The former "Charmed" star shared her criticisms on Twitter, saying that Streep and the other actresses who will join her in the protest are hypocrites, Vulture confirmed.
"Actresses, like Meryl Streep, who happily worked for The Pig Monster, are wearing black @GoldenGlobes in a silent protest. YOUR SILENCE is THE problem. You'll accept a fake award breathlessly & affect no real change. I despise your hypocrisy," McGowan's post reads, which has already been taken down.
She even added that maybe the actresses who will partake in the silent protest should wear Marchesa, the brand that Weinstein's ex-wife, Georgina Chapman, co-created.
This isn't the first time that McGowan took a jab at Streep. She also slammed the "Mamma Mia" star for her comments when the Weinstein scandal first took flight.
"No, Meryl, IT'S A F****** CRIME. You are such a lie," McGowan said on Twitter, reacting to Streep's interview with USA Today. The actress cited what irked her the most about Streep's interview, which was referring to the allegations of sexual misconduct against Weinstein as "the most gargantuan example of disrespect."
McGowan will be releasing her own book, titled "Brave," coming out in January 2018. In her book, the actress talks about the cult in Hollywood and how she claimed her life back from it.
