'Roseanne' News: 'Shameless' Actress Lands Major Role in Upcoming Reboot
Emma Kenney has been tapped to play a key role on the upcoming "Roseanne" revival.
The "Shameless" vet will take on the role of Darlene (Sara Gilbert) and David's (Johnny Galecky) daughter Harris, according to reports. Harris was initially introduced in season 9 of the flagship sitcom, when Darlene gave birth to her prematurely.
The revival will see Harris as a new transplant from Chicago to Lanford, Illinois. Obviously, she is not happy about it and she is not shy when it comes to expressing her true feelings. She is also determined to become better than her grandparents and parents. Her drive to move up the socioeconomic ladder can be seen in her choices of friends and clothes.
The now 14-year-old Connor offspring is described as a spitting image of her mother. Fans can expect them to be very similar in attitude and appearance. However, there are speculations that Harris will continue to evolve and she will end up having a much lighter complexion than her mother.
Original cast members returning for the sequel include Roseanne Barr (Roseanne), John Goodman (Dan), Laurie Metcalf (Jackie), Gilbert, Michael Fishman (DJ), Lecy Goranson (Becky) and Sarah Chalke (who also portrayed Becky, but is coming back for a different role). Also expected to come back is Galecki, who has yet to confirm his new deal with ABC.
Kenney is best known for playing Debbie Gallagher on the hit dramedy "Shameless." She has been on the show for almost eight years, which means she probably has more experience on portraying a kid in a dysfunctional family. The program returns for its eight season this coming November on Showtime.
The young actress' casting comes after ABC confirmed that Ames McNamara will join the series as Harris' younger sibling Mark.
The "Roseanne" reboot premieres midseason in 2018 on ABC.
