'Roseanne' Revival Air Date, News: Sara Gilbert Hopeful 'Big Bang Theory' Star Johnny Galecki Returns

The "Roseanne" revival on ABC will begin production soon but its cast list remains incomplete. Sara Gilbert (Darlene Conner) is still hopeful that her on-screen partner Johnny Galecki (David Healy) will return.

Galecki's commitment to the "Roseanne" revival remains doubtful as he's in the middle of filming "The Big Bang Theory" season 11. Gilbert told Entertainment Tonight that despite Galecki's busy schedule, talks are ongoing for him to reprise his role.

"We're in very productive, amazing talks and we're hopeful that it will work out," Gilbert said.

Before Galecki shot to fame for "The Big Bang Theory," he was most familiar to TV viewers as Darlene's boyfriend on "Roseanne." When the series ended in 1997, their characters supposedly got married.

Fans of the show thus expect Galecki as David will be back for the revival. ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey revealed to reporters last August that the network has been in discussions with the actor. With Gilbert's latest statement, however, it looks like no deal has been made after weeks of talks.

Meanwhile, Gilbert said that she's excited about doing the revival as it will give a voice and provide representation for a group of people that aren't ordinarily featured on a TV sitcom.

"I think we don't see enough people on TV that are struggling to pay their bills and that's what many, many Americans are doing," the actress said.

The "Roseanne" revival was first announced in April and its main stars Roseanne Barr (Roseanne Conner), John Goodman (Dan Conner), and Laurie Metcalf (Jackie Harris) agreed to return along with Gilbert, who will also get credit as executive producer.

The revival show will have a limited number of episodes only and will air during the 2018 midseason on ABC. An official air date has not been scheduled as of press time.

"Roseanne" was a constant Top 20 show. It was America's number one comedy series from 1989 to 1990.
