Round Up of Android 5.0 Bugs on Samsung Phones and Phablets

Since various mobile carriers in the U.S. started rolling out the Android 5.0 update on older Samsung flagship phones and phablets, some users have taken to online forums and social media to raise their complaints about the problems their devices were encountering after receiving the update. This report attempts to round up the problems reported by users so far.

According to a report in Tech Times, among the first to receive the update were Samsung Galaxy S5 devices on Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile, as Samsung is trying to reach users of the older flagship phone before the release of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. The report cites that most Galaxy S5 users are happy with the update, "a great number are having issues." Specific problems that were mentioned by some owners included "forced app closures, crashing of apps, heart rate sensor issues, overheating and battery drain." Some users reported problems with the Wi-Fi sensor as well.

When Sprint and AT&T brought the update to Galaxy Note 3 and Note 4 devices in their networks, online forums went abuzz again about numerous problems device owners encountered, most especially those who were on the AT&T network. According to another Tech Times report, common complaints were random reboots, apps crashing or closing and draining of battery despite minimal use. These were apparently similar to some of the problems reported on some HTC phones.

The most common recommendation to remedy these problems, also made by other users, was a factory reset. This was not effective for all phones however. The report speculated that these problems may be more due to "software issues" which can only be remedied with a newer version of the update, but may take some time to fix.

No official comment has been released by Samsung or the mobile carriers, but according to the report, things are being sorted out quietly. New Android 5.0 Lollipop updates with new build numbers have been issued to Note 4 users by Verizon and AT&T.
