'Runaway' Film News: Marvel Says It Might Not Debut Until Phase 4
Although the Marvel Cinematic Universe is just about the enter its Phase 2, Marvel is already planning for the next phases of the franchise which will include an upcoming movie called "Runaways."
The idea of bringing the film to life starting in 2008, when the CEO of Marvel Kevin Feige asked the co-creator of "Runaways," Brian K. Vaughan, to write the script for a film adaptation of the comic series. Vaughan will be joined by Drew Pearce, who was part of the sitcom called "No heroics."
During that time, Marvel had already set up casting for the film, which KeKe Palmer and Lucas Cruikshank as two of the actors. The film was expected to start filming around 2010 and was supposed to air in theaters back in 2011. However, Marvel was faced with delays since it had released "The Avengers."
According to Den of Geek, n a podcast interview with Pearce, he explained that while the film faced delays, he thinks that the film will be a much better fit for the upcoming phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The comic series "Runaways" is based on a family consisting children of super-criminals. The story shows the group struggling with the decision of using their super powers for good. With that, its presence in the upcoming phases will bring an interesting vibe to the Marvel Cinematic universe.
Pearce explained as quoted by Movieweb, "We were really close to being made, and then this movie started to happen called The Avengers. Oddly, it pulled focus from the unheard-of brand Runaways, and it really did kind of consume the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's there - maybe it'll be a Phase Three movie. I really hope so. I'm really proud of it and I think it'll be a brilliant film, but I think it all depends what Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel, his master plan is."
Meanwhile, there has yet to be any details on when the "Runaways" will be released. Since there are currently several Marvel films expected to release within the next couple of years, there are speculations that the "Runaways" will not hit the Marvel Cinematic Universe until Phase 4.
